  • Smoking during Idle only

Bought a 2002 GMC 2500 HD Duramax, well kept, great condition, can pull 26ft camper with no problem, smokes when Idling, suspect injectors but which one or more is unknown, tried laser thermometer, left exhaust manifold 50 degrees higher than right, how can I identify which injector is leaking or is that my problem ? any help would be greatly appreciated

First off welcome to the site and owning a duramax!

LB7's are notorious for having injector issues. Plugging in a scanner and checking the balance rates should help identify which injector is bad. GM recommends that in park the balance rates are within +/-4, generally if you are hazing at idle you will have one or more injectors that are well beyond the spec. One of the things we would recommend is adding in a lift pump, to make sure your injectors are getting clean fuel, and if you replace them, go with a genuine Bosch injector. Some people are seeing really good results when changing injectors by switching from the standard LB7 VCO style nozzle to a SAC style nozzle which is what all 2005+ Duramax's use. Let us know if we can help you with parts or more diagnostics on your truck!

If you would like to do more reading, there is a really good article on injectors on our site. http://dmaxstore.com/products/?route...&product_id=49
