  • Turbo Talk!

Okay fellas, What turbo setup are you running right now? Why did you go with this setup? How do you like it? And will you upgrade to something better in the future?

For me I'm currently running a stock 61mm LBZ turbo. In the next couple months though I will be getting it modified to a super stocker. It will consist of a full rebuild, rebalanced, Port/Polish, low profile vanes, and a bullet wetzel wheel. Okay that's me who's next?

I was running stock mod to a 64 and SX480, Now I'm going to run a small frame T4 S472 with a my T6 480 mod to a 491 if it will work not 100% sure yet. still kicking it around before I pull the trigger. I still drive this daily and race as well.

One of the crew here put the Fleece 63mm cheetah on his 05 LLY and that thing screams... he loves the power and the song it sings.

Hopefully before I head down to Bakersfield next March I will have this modified stocker. It will be rebuilt, Port & Polished, rebalanced, low pro vanes, and a billet wetzel wheel.

for those of you guys running the twin setups, did you have to do any mods to your ac lines or any hoses or wiring to make it fit?

I didn't my shop did a custom fit twin kit. Pulled the cab and made the piping fit as needed to function and fit. I was able to keep the battery in the stock position, cooling reservoir I did change out to a different type, but stayed in the same place and no lines where cut. However we did reroute the ac lines later when we did twin cp3's to clean up the engine compartment.

very nice, yeah biggest thing i want is to keep the battery under the hood and not have to be cutting and splicing hose/wire to have room for the additional plumbing.

But my turbo sits a little bit lower than most. I did cut the fender well, but you get a blast of hot air coming out of the open fender and maybe the heat relief is worth the fender being cut out ? To me it was and you get a lot of looks going down the road.

How does the wet weather when driving down the road affect that thing?

I does not affect it very much. It's back far enough that you get a little mist on the outer part of the polished part and the inner cooler piping gets a little mist as well, but not very much. The air from the fan and heat of the engine keep 99% of the water away. When you stand by that side you can feel the heat and the air just blowing out Even in the winter I don't get any snow or ice build up on it. I hit it with mothers about once a month to shine it up and good as new. At first we thought it was going to be a pain, but worked out really well. I don't take it out in the mud any more. I have a side by side for hunting. So all in all I think it works really good for being as open as it is. It's been on for about two years now and still looks great.

So instead of going with a modified stock turbo, I'm gonna end up going with DP billet 68mm stage 2r. Should be a badass charger for my truck, and be enough to blow the little engine that could. Nothing but good things said about this charger. I believe Idaho Rob knows the tables for this charger so he will be able to dial it in real good. Any thoughts from the more experienced guys?

You'll be glad that you went with the larger now. Down the road you'll be able to go with more fuel and not worry about the air. It doesn't take long before you out grow the modified stock. What elevation are you running at?
