At what power level are studs recommended/ required? Ive searched hi and low on interwebs with no straight answer. Also for those that have done it, how much of a pain was it?..ive heard about 30hrs of work..and has anyone done them one at a time versus pull the whole head? Im planning on a set of twins with a dual cp3 with 60 over injectors in next year..dont worry guys trans will get built first!! Just looking for opinions/ experiences....aaannnd go

I'd do studs as soon as you can. If you do injectors or head gasket do studs. It doesn't hurt at any level. Keep those heads tight, won't warp and at heavy boost won't lift. And if you're doing twins then you want studs. I did studs when I had my head gaskets changed out and then it all went crazy after that. Tranny just won't take much HP increase so that is a good place to start before the rest. I always knew that I was going to go high hp, so I started beefing up as I did any work. While they are in there get it done. Then you don't have to pay later for labor. Doesn't take must heavy boost to lift a head.

with your mods you listed as future plans, I say the head studs are necessary.

hope one of our techs will chime in with some advice for you

Any real engine work can be time consuming ,but it's always nicer to do the work or have it done when it's planned. We recommend and stud all the head gasket jobs we do. I've seen and heard of people installing studs one at a time. I would not recommend it . Because of your plans with your truck it's best to remove the heads have them checked ,prep the block install new gaskets and stud kit.

Look at getting them ported or depending on what you are going to do with your truck maybe valve springs and push rods. I run Hamilton cams springs and rods enjoy how the perform and no head work to run their springs. Just a thought while it's apart saves on labor if you plan to do more later.
