Transmission not shifting after fluid change

2008 GMC 2500HD I changed the spin on as well as the internal filter after dropping the pan. Added 7 quarts to hit the cold line on the dip stick. My truck will work in reverse and drive but will only stay in 1st gear after driving 2-3 miles I parked it. Any ideas why this happened?

Double check the fluid level, as it should have taken more. After that pull the pan, sound like the internal filter is not installed correctly.
