    STEERING SHAFT LOWER BEARING

    2001-2007 Chevy/GMC 2500/3500HD
    Part#88963617
Genuine GM Steering Shaft Lower Bearing. Some vehicles may also require this bearing to complete the steering shaft change to completely eliminate the noise.
To replace the steering shaft lower bearing you will need a 15mm and 10mm Socket and ratchet, sand paper or buffing wheel and a steering wheel lock or strap to secure the steering wheel.
locate the column bearing (white) on the steering shaft under the dash behind the kick panel

locate the 15mm to be removed on the shaft under the dash

on the LBZ models and newer you may have to locate and remove the accelerator pedal position sensor. Pictured below with the wires and red tab, unplug

use the 10mm socket to remove the two nuts to remove the sensor and slide to the side

remove the nut and bolt, slide the shaft apart. Careful not to clock the steering wheel

remove the bearing from the shaft

may be necessary to sand the end of shaft to prevent premature wear on the new bearing. You can use sand paper or a sanding wheel

Install the new bearing with the two tangs lined up in the slot

slide the column shaft back onto the lower shaft

re install and tighten the 15mm nut and bolt

re install the sensor and the 2 10mm nuts to complete the install
